St Edmund’s School Library

I am Mrs Shorter and I am the Librarian at St Edmund’s. Every pupil in the school has an individual number to borrow books. We consider reading for pleasure to be very important and ask pupils to have a reading book with them at all times. Pupils are encouraged to discuss authors and books in their English lessons and recommend titles they have enjoyed to their peers. I buy all the latest teenage fiction and ask pupils for their recommendations as well. We have won the Secondary School Literature Quiz and had the Portsmouth Reader of the year for each of the three years that they have taken place.

25

The pupils are taught library skills in their subject lessons and encouraged to use the Library independently. The Library is open before and after school and at both break and lunch times.

We have three clubs that meet at lunchtimes The Yu-Gi-Oh! Club meets on a Wednesday, the Manga Club on a Thursday and the Library Club, which is just for Year 7, on a Friday. These clubs are very popular and are becoming more so now that we have facilities to watch Anime films and also have a Karaoke machine. The pupils really enjoy all the games and quizzes that we provide for the Library Club as well.

Lady Macbeth: Blood

Blood splattered across my hand
Marks that will not be gone
For all the perfumes in the land
Cannot change what I have done

Blood trickles down along my arm
I cannot rest at night
I murdered sleep, I murdered calm
I believed my decisions were right

Blood soaking through my hair and skin
The past is drowning me
Why did I let this all begin?
This is not how it was meant to be.
