The History Department

History is a thriving and successful subject within the school. The Department has a commitment to active learning whilst preserving the academic rigour that makes History a genuinely challenging discipline. Learning outside the classroom is regarded as an essential and integral part of the “History Experience” with trips and guest speakers being utilised.

Great store is put on students acquiring valuable transferable skills. Particularly the key ones of analytical thought, the handling of information and communication. History is compulsory at KS3 when pupils enjoy a varied and modern curriculum. It is optional at KS4 but many of our former pupils go on to study History at A Level.

The History Department at St Edmunds is fortunate to have well-qualified, experienced and specialist teachers of the subject.

The Department mainly operates out of two specialist “History” rooms that enjoy facilities such as networked computers, DVDs/Videos, overhead digital projectors, interactive whiteboards and modern textbooks.

Lady Macbeth: Blood

Blood splattered across my hand
Marks that will not be gone
For all the perfumes in the land
Cannot change what I have done

Blood trickles down along my arm
I cannot rest at night
I murdered sleep, I murdered calm
I believed my decisions were right

Blood soaking through my hair and skin
The past is drowning me
Why did I let this all begin?
This is not how it was meant to be.
