Prayers

Life of St Edmund's Prayer

StEdmundimage

Heavenly Father, as we gather in prayer, we ask for the guidance and inspiration of our school patron,
St Edmund, who led a life based on Gospel values and the belief in the power of God.

We, pray that like Edmund, each of us will personally come to believe that,
“I can do all things with the help of God who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)
and that together our school community may grow ever closer to you and to one another.

May our school be a place that reaches out to the wider community
and is mindful of the environment around us.

We pray in union with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Approach to Teaching

We aim to provide a stimulating and comfortable learning environment that encourages students to take risks, discover artistic strengths and express themselves visually with confidence and individuality.

We equip students with a broad range of practical artistic skills necessary for them to be independent and solve their own challenges.

Art6

Key Stage 3 content (Year 7 -9)

Pupils explore and develop their creative skills using a wide range of media, both traditional and modern, producing artwork in response to a variety of stimuli.

We provide an atmosphere in which the confidence and enthusiasm of the student can flourish. We appreciate and value student’s individual responses and they are encouraged to develop awareness of and respect for the art of others.

Year 7 Project - Toy and Teddy bear drawing project

Year 8 Project - Jungle Painting Project inspired by Artist Henri Rousseau

Year 9 project - Portrait Painting inspired Artist Chuck Close.

Key Stage 4 content (Year 10-11) GCSE

Art2       Art4

The course provides students with the opportunity to explore their interests in art and design in ways that are personally relevant and truly developmental in nature.

They will develop existing physical and perceptual skills through drawing and painting from observation as well as printmaking, 3D Sculpture, experimental mixed media work and sketchbook work.

Assessment is based upon a coursework portfolio which will provide evidence of at least two projects completed during the course and an externally set exam. Current GCSE coursework projects include:

Cubist Composition and Structures

Natural Forms

Cakes and Confectionary

Coursework (60% of the total GCSE) At least two full projects completed in Year 10 and 11.

Exam (40% of the total GCSE) Exam Preparation Time (approx. 8 – 12 weeks). Final Exam 10 hours completed in Year 11 at Easter time.
